Gene graduated from Bay City Central High School in 1977, and attended SVSU and Davenport University. He retired on March 1, 2014 from Consumers Energy where he was employed for 36 years and always said “he was one of the few grown men who got to keep playing with trains and dozers”. For the past eleven years, he was employed with the W. A. Trahan Funeral Chapel. He enjoyed oil painting, wood-crafting, fishing, camping and cooking for his family. He would always talk about his trips to Disney World with his family. Gene was a member of St. Jude Thaddeus Parish (St. John the Evangelist Church) in Essexville.
On October 24, 1979 he married the former Cynthia Orr in St. Stanislaus Church who survives along with his son: Adam (Kathy) Dutkiewicz, his daughter-in-law: Michelle Dutkiewicz (Shaun); three grandchildren: Rosalynn, Deena, Kahlan Dutkiewicz; two sisters: Pauline (Tim) Dorn; Linda Matuszewski; his brother: Gerald (Shelly) Dutkiewicz; aunt: Virginia Engelke: mother-in-law: Patricia Orr; sisters-in-law: Debbie (Tim) Kaczmarek; M. J. (Bob) Potter; brothers-in-law: Fred (Ann) Orr, Greg (Andrea) Orr; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews; his extended Williams family; the Thursday Night Pool Gang; and many, many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Daniel and Kathleen (Weber) Dutkiewicz; his son, Eric; and his father-in-law: Frederick Orr.
The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at 11:00 am in St. Jude Thaddeus Parish (St. John Church), 614 Pine St., Essexville. Rev. Dale A. Orlik will preside and interment will follow in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be designated for the American Cancer Society.
