Obituary for Jerome G. "Jerry" Rose

Mr. Jerome Garrett Rose, our loving father and grandfather passed away peacefully on November 10, 2017 at Bay Medical Care Facility surrounded by his family. Age 88 years, he was the son of the late Harry and Agnes (Yahn) Rose. Jerry was born on January 2, 1929 in Bay City where he resided his entire life.

Jerry was formerly employed at United Welders, A&W Vending and Wilson Machine until his retirement. He was an avid lover of sports and coached both of his son’s baseball teams and was a member of the Bay City All-Stars. Jerry loved to spend time watching his grandsons participate in hockey and golf and “Pops” was always their biggest fan. Jerry had a fascination with ships and would spend countless hours sitting at the river smoking a cigar and watching them pass down the river. Everyone knew him for his quick wit and having a cigar hanging from his lips, along with flirting with all of his pretty nurses that took care of him.

On August 28, 1948 Jerome married the love of his life, Barbara (Peppel) in the First Congregational Church in Bay City. She preceded him in death on June 26, 2016. Surviving his passing are three children, Rickey (Lynne) Rose and Patrice (James) Smith of Bay City, and Barb Vandenbelt (Dr. Mark Komorowski) of Essexville; a daughter-in-law, Diane Rose of Egg Harbor, NJ; a former son-in-law, Dr. William Vandenbelt of Bay City; his four grandchildren, Scott (Shelley) Rose, Jake Rose (Courtney Wright), and Bryce and Braeden Vandenbelt (his Pride and Joys); two great-grandchildren, Sania and Jason Rose; two brothers, Harry Rose of Florida and Donald Rose of Essexville; a sister-in-law, Martha (Robert) Olson of Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by two loving sons, David Allen and William Scott Rose; and a brother, Keith Rose.

In accordance with Jerome’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a private family burial at Floral Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Trahan Funeral Chapel. For on-line sentiments:

“We love you Pops and are glad you finally made it home to Mom and the Boys. We will miss you every day, but will carry you in our hearts forever.”
