Obituary for G.W. "Bill" Richart, D.D.S.

George William Richart, DDS died peacefully at his home on September 30, 2017. He was born on September 15, 1927 to the late George W. and Agnes (Siebers) II. While his mother was visiting her parents in Kansas City, KS, Bill was born two months premature. Concerned that he would not survive, his grandmother poured water on him and baptized him…and he immediately cried out. He was then placed in a shoebox on the oven door to keep him warm and he lived for the next 90 years. He later went on to pursue his Bachelor of Arts Degree from St. Mary’s University in Maryland, his Bachelor of Science Degree from Wayne State University, and his DDS at the University of Detroit. He also did graduate work at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy.
Bill was very involved in his community as a member of the Saginaw Bay Yacht Club Board of Directors, Commander of the Power Squadron, the B. P. O. Elks Lodge #88, the Great Lakes Cruising Club, and served on the Zoning Board of Appeals for 27 years. Dr. Richart was a private practice dentist for 41years, and President of the Saginaw Valley Dental Society. Next to his family, his great love was his boat, “My Lady” and his family enjoyed many cruises around the Great Lakes and Canada. A dedicated Catholic, he served his church as President of the Parish Council, Lector, and Eucharistic Minister at St. Joseph Church, and was a member of St. Jude Thaddeus Parish.
On July 7, 1956, he married the love of his life, the former Mary Corrigan in St. Francis de Sales Church in Detroit and they have shared the lives together for the past 61 years. Mary survives along with their children: Mary K (Patrick) Chase, Theresa (Patrick) Wilberding, Margaret (William) Schulte, Bill (AnnMarie) Richart, Carolyn Wallace, Dr. James (Kimberly) Richart, Elizabeth Richart, and Judy (John) Hunsinger; their grandchildren: Chris (Michelle) Chase, Dan Chase, Katie Lash, Liz Schulte, Gwen Schulte, Will Richart, Faith Richart, Sara (Wes) Young, Maria (Sam) Thurstone, Michael Richart, Rebecca Richart, Richie (Alisha) Wallace, Andrew Wallace, Lauren Richart, Lindsey Richart, Bridget Hunsinger, Abby Hunsinger; four great-grandchildren: Caitlin Chase, Sydney Lash, Jonathan, Lillian Wallace, and one “soon to be born” Chase; his daughter-in-law: Becky (Dan) Keating; his sister: Judy (Miles) Muhlada; and sister-in-law: Carol Richart.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Patrick Richart; a brother, Thomas Richart, and sister, Joan Curtis.
The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Friday, October 6, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Jude Thaddeus Parish (St. John Church), 610 Pine St., Essexville. Bill will lie in state in church after 10:00 am. Rev. Dale A. Orlik will preside and interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Thaddeus Parish or the Capuchin Soup Kitchen (1264 Meldrum, Detroit, MI 48207). Visiting hours with the family will be Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 3:00 until 8:00 pm, with the Vigil Prayer Service at 7:00 pm at the W. A. Trahan Funeral Chapel. For on-line sentiments:
