Obituary for Lena (Lee) M. Campbell

Lena (Lee) M. Ballor Campbell, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend age 100 died on November 20, 2018. She was born in Linwood, MI, the third of seven children to Edward and Amanda (Metevia) Ballor on September 16, 1918. She was secretary of her 1936 graduating class from Central High School and a committee member for all her class reunions. The caption under her high school graduation picture read, “Some are sweet, some are fair but few with Lena can compare.” After graduation Lee worked in her father’s business, Linwood Lumber and Coal, as bookkeeper. On September 27, 1941, she married Robert W. Campbell at St Anne’s Church in Linwood. He preceded her on February 8, 1985. Later she volunteered for Mobile Meals, Bay Osteopathic Hospital and for 28 years at Delta College. She was a member of Corpus Christi Parish, the parish Altar Society and the Society of Catholic Men and Women.

Lee enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing bridge, belonging to dance clubs and attending family gatherings. She always said her happiest times were with her family. Her favorite day was the annual Campbell Christmas gathering, complete with all her kids, grands and greatgrands celebrating, exchanging gifts and dining on French meatpie. Lee was very outgoing and made life-long friends easily.

Lee is survived by her three loving children, Robert W, Jr (Carolyn), Cynthia (Ernest) Liebetreu and Jeffrey (Kimberly). She was Mimi to seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren as well as 4 step grandchildren, 7 step great grandchildren and 1 step great great granddaughter. She is also survived by one sister, Margaret (Peggy) Hanson and one sister-in-law, Corinne (Corky) Trombley. She was preceded by her parents, four brothers, one sister, a daughter-in-law and a step grandson.

Her family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Sheffield Bay for the loving, kind, and compassionate care shown Lee and her family since she moved there earlier this year.

Funeral Mass for Lee will be celebrated Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Corpus Christi Parish - Holy Trinity Church. Fr. Robert Kelm will preside and Fr. Kevin Kerbawy will be the concelebrant. Lee will lie in state at church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass. Her family will receive friends during this time. A private interment will follow at St Anne’s Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to American Cancer Society, Corpus Christi Parish or Delta College. Arrangements have been entrusted to Trahan Funeral Chapel. For on-line sentiments: www.trahanfc.com
