Jack Gravlin was called home to eternal life on May 11, 2017. He was born April 19, 1925, the 13th child and 10th son of Joseph Gravlin and Eva (Bowen) Gravlin in Bay City and was the last surviving sibling. After his adventured-filled childhood, Jack proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy. Upon return from his war time experiences, Jack attended barber college and cut hair for 62 years. He always called Bay City home. Jack was a lifelong member of St. James Catholic Parish and served as a lector, cantor, and member of the St. James Athletic Council. Jack also served as president of the Columbus Avenue Business Association and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Bay City Council #414. Singing was a favorite activity with family, friends, in church, at St. Patrick's Day events and as an end man in the St. James Showboat productions. Jack had a song for every name or topic. With his quick wit, humor, or silly song, he knew how to bring a smile to all he met. Jack loved much in his life and was preceded in death by Sally Weber Lovay, his teenage sweetheart. They shared 15 wonderful years together until her passing in 2000. Jack found love again and married Mary Ann Reed, April 12, 2002. Mary Ann has been by his side sharing family, life, and love for 15 years and she survives him, along with five children from his first marriage, Kathy Gravlin (Rob Nuhn), John (Tracy), Karen Bartell (Art), Mary Jane, Julie Scheel (Rick); nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren and many step-children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who were an important part of his life. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter in law, Denise Lovay Gravlin.

Jack's children would like to thank the Lovay and Reed families for making Jack a part of their lives. We would also like to thank the staff at McLaren Bay Region and McLaren Hospice for their care and professionalism.

The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 11:00 AM at All Saints Parish (St. James Church), 710 Columbus Avenue, Bay City, MI. Jack will lie in state in the church chapel Tuesday after 10:00 AM. Rev. Jose Maria Cabrera will preside and Rite of Committal will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, with Military Rites by the Bay County Veterans Council. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to McLaren Hospice or All Saints Parish. Visiting hours are Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM, with the Vigil Prayer Service at 7:00 PM in the W. A. Trahan Funeral Chapel.
