Obituary for Virginia R. "Ma Wiedyk" Wiedyk

Virginia Rose Wiedyk, our loving, caring, devoted mom, gramma, and gramma-great died Thursday, December 21, 2017 at New Hope Bay. On November 6, 1948, she married Virgil Wiedyk and they were happily married for 50 years before he died on October 31, 1998. Their love for each other was blessed with eight beautiful children: Linda (Dennis) Wack, Ruth (Tom) Foret, Daniel (Marcia) Wiedyk, Kenneth (Nora) Wiedyk, Carol (Ronald) Chartier, Ronald (Patricia) Wiedyk, Dale Wiedyk, Scott (Marlene) Wiedyk. Virginia had an undying love for her family and it showed on the faces of her sweet 18 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Also left to cherish her memory are many nieces and nephews. Besides her family, she enjoyed playing cards, puzzles, sewing quilts, and cooking her famous meatballs and delicious “Blue Ribbon” pies.
Virginia was born October 12, 1928, the daughter of William A. and Elizabeth (Jacobs) DeWyse in Portsmouth Township and was preceded in death by her seven sisters, four brothers and a grandson: Jarrod Wiedyk. She reached her goal to be the last and longest living of all her siblings. She enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends and was known by many as “Ma Wiedyk”. Virginia was a lifetime member of St. Jude Thaddeus Parish (St. John Church), it’s Altar Society and the League of Catholic Women and Men. She loved helping out whenever she could at church and in the community.
Mom spent the last year of her life at New Hope Bay Assisted Living where she received excellent care and love from everyone. We want to thank all the staff at New Hope Bay as well as The Care Team Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 10:00 am in St. Jude Thaddeus Parish (St. John Church) 614 Pine St., Essexville. Rev. Dale Orlik will preside. Private interment will be in St. Patrick Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be designated for St. Jude Parish Food Pantry or New Hope Bay.
