Obituary for Soyla G. Zavala

Soyla G. Zavala, age 80, passed away Thursday morning, September 14, 2017 at Caretel Inns of Bay City. The daughter of the late Fabian and Manuela (Rodriguez) Gonzales, she was born on July 28, 1937 in San Antonio, Texas. Soyla attended Shalom Assembly of God Church. She was always staying busy with crafting, crocheting, knitting and sewing and loved her Chihuahua’s.

Soyla was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Zavala, Jr. in 2001. She is survived by seven children: Ramona Irma (Bobby) DeLeon, Rick Martinez, Adolfo (Erlinda) Martinez, Diana (Ricardo) Mendiola, LeRoy (Dawn) Martinez, Larry Martinez and Manuel (Kathleen) Zavala; her 26 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; her brothers and sisters-in-law: Martin (Mary) Zavala, Jesse (Melie) Zavala, Andrea (Floyd) Brewster and Esther Ramirez; and numerous nieces and nephews. Soyla was also preceded in death by a son: Michael Martinez; and a daughter-in-law, Ida Martinez.

Funeral Service will be Monday, September 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at W.A. Trahan Funeral Chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Manuel Hernandez with interment following at St. Patrick Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be considered to the wishes of the family. Visiting hours are Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Trahan Chapel.
