There are condolences waiting approval on JOHN's Tribute wall

His harvest is finally finished. At the age of 96 years, John died at home surrounded by his family on Monday, March 26, 2018. He was born to Crist and Lena (Haas) Dummeldinger on April 28, 1921 in Merritt Township, where he resided most of his life. John was a member of St. Jude Thaddeus Parish (St. Norbert Church). He was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post # 485. He was a proud veteran of World War II, honorably serving our country in the U. S. Army from July 1942 to September 1945. He was a member of Patton's 3rd Army , 95th Infantry, 377th Regiment, Company F and Canon Company. His division was called the “Iron Men of Metz” as they were the first to liberate the heavily fortified town of Metz, France. He received the Bronze Star for his heroic and meritorious service.

John was a long time farmer alongside his wife Kay in Munger/Merritt Township. After retiring, he planted a garden that would envy most. He enjoyed sharing his tomatoes and potatoes with neighbors, friends and family. He was a Detroit Tiger fan and loved watching games on TV as well as at Tiger Stadium and Comerica Park. He especially enjoyed his time with his morning coffee and card group at the Tool Shed and JR's. He appreciated spending time with his family and really had a “love of life”.

On August 14, 1946 John was united in marriage to Kathleen D. Peterson. They shared their lives together for over 71 years. Kathleen survives him, along with four daughters, Susan Dishaw (Patrick), Sharon Hack (James), Lois Braman (Bill) and Linda Jenkins (Rod); seven grandchildren, Scott and Jonathon Dishaw, Brooke Braman-Yencarelli, Bo Braman, John and Justin Rappaport, and Chris Hack, ten great grandchildren and future baby boy Braman. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by four sisters and two brothers, Ann Dean, Margaret Burke, Rose Groulx, Minnie Robetoy, Karl and Gus Dummeldinger.
