Obituary for Dr. John L. Langin, MD

Our beloved father, John “Jack” Langin MD., went to be with our mother and into the arms of our Savior on Thursday, March 22, 2018. He was born on November 30, 1921 to the late John S. and Mabel (Pollock) Langin. John graduated from Detroit Holy Rosary High School, Class of 1939. He served proudly as a Captain in the U.S. Army. During his service, he was stationed at Camp Haugen (Hachinohe) Japan in a 200 bed Dispensary Station Hospital. After leaving the service, he entered a residency program in Pathology at Detroit Veterans Hospital. While at the hospital, John met and married Loraine Martin on September 9, 1950. They moved to Bay City in 1955 where he became the Chief Pathologist for Bay and Arenac Counties. He was one of the founders and Director of the Saginaw Valley Blood Bank Program, which is now Michigan Blood and was instrumental in bringing the Oral Polio Vaccine to Bay County. John was very generous to many missionary and welfare service organinzations. He was a devout Catholic and was a member for St. Boniface Catholic Church for many years and most recently St. Jude Thaddeus Parish (St. John Church). He was a member of American College of Pathologists, American Society of Clinical Pathologists, AMA and the Michigan State Medical Society and received many awards and certificates for his dedicated service. Upon his retirement, he was a minister at the Bay County Jail and delivered meals for Bay County Meals on Wheels. John was an avid tennis player, bicyclist and was a lifetime member of the YMCA where he attended daily.
He leaves behind daughters: Christine (Maurice) Henna, Janelle and Teresa Langin and son; John Jr., all of Bay City; four grandchildren: Matthew and Robert (Jill) Friske of Bay City, Christopher (Marcie) Langin of MN and Sarah Langin of WI; five great-grandchildren: Marissa, Luke, Caleb, Jackson and Evie. John was preceded in death by his wife, Loraine and son, Michael.
The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at 11:00 AM in St. Jude Thaddeus Parish (St. John Church), 614 Pine St., Essexville. Rev. Fr. Dale A. Orlik will preside with Rite of Committal at St. Patrick Cemetery followed by Military Honors conducted by the Bay County Veterans Council. Memorial contributions may be designated to the Humane Society or the Bay Community Tennis Association. Visiting hours with the family will be Monday, March 26, 2018 from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the Vigil Prayer Service at 6:30 PM at the W. A. Trahan Funeral Chapel. Visiting hours will continue at the church on Tuesday after 10:00 AM until the Funeral Liturgy.
