Bernard R. "Buzz" Baranek
Age 87 years, died Tuesday, March 2, 2010 in Bay Regional Medical Center. He was born to the late Gottlieb and Anna (Rawranek) Baranek on August 15, 1922 in Bay City. Bernard was employed with Michigan Bell for 42 years before his retirement. He was a member of St. James Church and the Telephone Pioneers. Bernard loved to sing and was very active in the church choir. He was involved in many sports in high school and continued to play golf throughout the years. Bernard served honorably in the U. S. Marines during World War II. On September 7, 1946 he married the former Dorothy Seeley and she survives him along with their five children: Barb (James) Watson, Michael (Maria) Baranek, David Baranek, Richard (Patti) Baranek, and Lori (Michael) Davis; six grandchildren: Wendi Baranek, Carrie (Brett) Rix, Kayla (Grant) Gallant, Melissa Baranek, Melissa Watson, and Emily Watson; three great-grandchildren: Greenlee Harris, Emma Dushan, and Leela Gallant; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, David; four brothers: Conrad, George, Edmund, and Henry Baranek; and three sisters: Mary Neering, Betty Baranek, and Ann Newpower. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Friday, March 5, 2010 at 10:00 AM in St. James Church. Bernard will lie in state in church Friday after 9:00 AM. Rev. Robert J. DeLand will preside and private entombment will follow in St. Patrick Mausoleum. Visiting hours are Thursday 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the Vigil Prayer Service at 7:00 PM, at the W. A. Trahan Funeral Chapel. The Baranek Family would like to thank the staff of The Carriage House of Bay City for their kindness and compassionate care.
