Having just celebrated her 99th birthday this past Sunday, Marie died Friday evening, February 26, 2010 at Linwood Residence surrounded by her family. She was born February 21, 1911 in Bay City to the late Frank and Cecilia (Tomczak) Malinowski. For the past 30 years, she was a member of St. Anne Church. She was married to Stephen Gorney for 43 years before he died on May 29, 1978. Marie was affectionately known as the “Card Lady” for her thoughtfulness in sending friends and family cards on special occasions. She is survived by her two sons and two daughters: Ronald Gorney of Oscoda, Anita (William) Reszke of Pinconning, Robert (Patricia) Gorney of Linwood, Ceil Neitzel of Bay City; eight grandchildren: Michael, Stephen, and Douglas Reszke; Brenda Schultz, Patrick, Mark, and Christopher Neitzel, Jill Lenhard; 19 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, Marie was preceded in death by three brothers: Emil, Ed, and Frank Malinowski; her sister Evelyn Ulman; and her son-in-law: John Neitzel. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 10:00 am in St. Anne Church, Linwood. Marie will lie in state Tuesday in church after 9:00 am. Rev. Richard Jozwiak will preside followed by interment in St. Anne Cemetery. Visiting hours with the family will be Monday from 2:00 pm until 8:30 pm, with the Vigil Prayer Service at 7:00 pm in the Trahan Chapel. Memorial contributions may be designated for St. Anne Church Renovation Fund. Marie’s family would like to acknowledge and give a very, very loving “thank you” to Dee and all of her “Earth Angels” at Linwood Residence for their loving and compassionate care. Also, a special Thank You to Anne McManmon, Marie’s Befriender from St. Anne’s Parish.
